We were wowed by Jon’s beautiful yellow bathroom on Facebook, so we caught up with him to find out more!
Jon says: “We’d been wanting to refit our en-suite, which being built in 2006, was now looking rather tired and ill-thought out. Working with local firm Country Bathrooms, they replanned our layout, but we had a very particular colour scheme in mind.”
Designing a white and yellow bathroom
“Our plan was to have a clean white bathroom, with an accent wall of yellow in the shower. Finding the right shade of yellow wasn’t easy though, and we spent a few months ordering samples of every yellow tile we could find.
It had to have depth and warmth, and not be too ‘lemony’ or ‘acidic’. We also wanted a slightly bumpy surface to reflect light in different ways, but with neat straight edges.”
The perfect yellow bathroom tiles
“The Handcraft Mustard Yellow Tiles from Direct Tile Warehouse were the clear winner, and we ordered Handcraft White for the rest of the bathroom.
The yellow tiles weren’t available immediately, so we actually delayed the bathroom refit until we received our order. Speaking to Direct Tile Warehouse on the phone, I was confident of the delivery date and got the impression of a friendly family company. The tiles arrived exactly when promised, and they were a joy to deal with!
The tiles were grouted with Fugabella #27, which while not exactly the same yellow, created a subtler line than straight black or white would. We’re really happy with the end result – it makes us smile every morning and evening. Like walking into a fried egg!”
