We were thrilled to see our outdoor tile collection taking pride of place in Bethan’s garden. Her detailed design process and innovative decision to lay the tiles diagonally created the illusion of a more spacious, inviting garden. This creative approach transformed her outdoor space into a perfect haven for relaxing and entertaining. We couldn’t wait to catch up with Bethan to hear more about her stunning garden makeover!
We bought our house (@renoat51_) in 2022 in South Wales, after a long 6 months we finally picked up the keys. Our house was built in 1990’s and in need of a refresh to give it a modern feel, we knew we wanted to gut it and make it ours. Our vision for the house is modern, but still having a classic style.
With my partner being a carpenter, we were lucky that we could do most things within the house and garden ourselves, and we wanted to look back on our home with a sense of pride on what we’d achieved.
Choosing the Perfect Outdoor Tile
The garden consisted of grass, trees and ivy, and we had a vision of a modern garden with a patio area for us to host and enjoy those summer days and evenings. We got stuck in and started digging the garden out, but fair to say we had our work cut out for us.
We wanted large, square porcelain tiles that were grey but had a ‘washed’ look that consisted of different tones and needed to be anti-slip. We did some browsing at other tile stores and online but when we popped into our local Direct Tile Warehouse, we fell in love instantly. centre of the store sat these new tiles, and exactly what we were both looking for. We picked the Lake Grey Anti Slip porcelain tiles, size 60cmx60cmx20cm (ZEN302). I couldn’t believe the price of them in comparison to other tiles I’d seen in other stores, and the quality of these was better.
We were still digging and concreting the garden, so we weren’t ready for the tiles yet, but we loved these so much. However, the guys at Direct Tile Warehouse kept them back for us and arranged delivery in a few weeks’ time, they were so flexible.
When the tiles arrived, we laid them on a diagonal to follow the angle of the garden rather than horizontal; we felt this opened the garden up a bit more.
